ARDA Language Centre, Savannakhet, Laos

“We seek to mobilise resources to provide high quality affordable training for Lao people, to further their individual and national development”

Since 1996, ARDA Language Centres have provided high quality, affordable language skills in the Lao PDR. With over 3000 alumni in Vientiane alone, and additional centres in Luang Prabang and Paske, ARDA has become one of the most well-recognised language training schools in Laos.

ARDA stands for Anglican Relief and Development Agency

ARDA is a wholly foreign owned private company in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (Lao PDR). The single shareholder of the company is the Anglican Diocese of Singapore. Expatriates working for ARDA are working for a private business and carry business visas.

ARDA is primarily an educational service provider. ARDA is licensed with all appropriate governmental bodies in the Lao PDR including ministry of Education as a private educational institution.

We offer both English and Lao classes in all three Language Centres as well as vocational skills training in Vientiane.

We are proud to contribute to the development of the Lao PDR by providing professional quality language learning acquisition and job skills to our students.

English Language Classes

English language classes are the core business of the ARDA-Laos language centres located in VientianePakse and Luang Prabang.

Each Language Centre runs English language courses at various levels, from beginner to advanced.

The main English language courses run for 16 weeks, with 3 x 2 hour lessons each week. These courses are run twice each year. Most courses are run in the evening to allow workers and students to attend after hours. These courses use the Headway syllabus from Oxford University – “the world’s best selling English language course”

There is also a much shorter Summer Term which runs in the middle of the year between the two main courses.

All new students will sit a short assessment interview to ensure they are enrolled in the best class for their level of English Language. For assessment dates and course schedules, see the details for VientianePakse or Luang Prabang.

All courses are taught by qualified native English language teachers. Classes are kept reasonably small (around 20 people) to enable good participation by all students. Classes involve more than just attending the lesson. In lessons students will be actively involved in many practical exercises and fun activities to practice, encourage and promote the correct use of the English language. Students receive a students book as well as a workbook with exercises to be completed at home between lessons.

Courses usually have mid and final term spoken and written tests. On completion of a level (e.g. ‘Beginner’), students who pass the tests and come to 80% of classes receive a certificate and can enter the next level the following term.

Lao Language Classes

All Language Centres offer Lao language classes for non-Lao speakers.  As most Lao-learners are professionals with complex personal schedules, we mainly offer one-to-one classes that are customized to the student.   Class times, hours of study per week, and primary language focus (conversation, literacy, writing, or a combination of these) can be tailored to your individual needs.  Group classes can also be arranged on request. For costs per hour and teacher availability, please contact the office of the centre in the city where you wish to study. Please provide your preferred days and times of study and we will try and accommodate your preferences.

Please feel free to contact us with any queries or questions you may have.
