KL Dance Works Ballet Academy provides ballet training in the Vaganova-based method, well known among full-time ballet academies worldwide for students who aspire to pursue dance as a career.

Our environment is conducive to nurturing students to work to their highest potential. In promoting appreciation of the art form, we create opportunities for students to perform, as well as participate in professional and international level productions.

Pre-ballet (Age 5-6*), 

  • No experience required
  • Academy annual production
  • To participate in the annual showcase, students are required to attend weekly group rehearsals on top of usual classes (group rehearsals take place two months before the performance, usually on Sundays 5pm onwards)

Preparatory Level 1 (Age 7-8*)

  • No or little experience
  • Recommended attendance – 2 times a week
  • Academy annual production
  • To participate in the annual showcase, students are required to attend weekly group rehearsals on top of usual classes (group rehearsals take place two months before the performance, usually on Sundays 5pm onwards)
  • ~Experience required for the following levels~

Level 1

  • First year (Age 9*)
  • Second year (Age 10*)
  • Recommended attendance – 2 times a week
  • Academy annual production
  • To participate in the annual showcase, students are required to attend weekly group rehearsals on top of usual classes (group rehearsals take place two months before the performance, usually on Sundays 5pm onwards)

Level 2

  • First year (Age 11*)
  • Students are required to attend a ‘minimum’ of 2 Technique classes a week.
  • Recommended attendance – 3 times or above a week to include more technique and repertoire class for performance and assessment.
  • Academy annual production
  • To participate in the annual showcase, students are required to add Repertoire class and attend weekly group rehearsals on top of usual classes (group rehearsals take place two months before the performance, usually on Sundays 5pm onwards)

Second year (Age 12*)

  • Students are required to attend a ‘minimum’ of 3 classes a week (2 Technique and 1 Repertoire).
  • Recommended attendance – 4 times or above a week to include more technique and repertoire class for performance and assessment.
  • Academy annual production (same as First year)

Junior Contemporary Dance

Contemporary dance adopt movements from many dance styles. It is also a raw form of dance that does not follow any rules, encouraging creativity which is beneficial to the student.

Level 3,  First year (Age 13*)

  • Students are required to attend a ‘minimum’ of 2 Technique classes a week.
  • Recommended attendance – 3 times or above a week to include more technique and repertoire class for performance and assessment.
  • Academy annual production
  • To participate in the annual showcase, students are required to add Repertoire class and attend weekly group rehearsals on top of usual classes (group rehearsals take place two months before the performance, usually on Sundays 5pm onwards)

Second year (Age 14*)

  • Students are required to attend a ‘minimum’ of 3 classes a week (2 Technique and 1 Repertoire).
  • Recommended attendance – 4 times or above a week to include more technique and repertoire class for performance and assessment.
  • Academy annual production (same as First year)

Level 5 (17* and above)

  • Students are required to attend a ‘minimum’ of 3 classes a week (2 Technique and 1 Repertoire)
  • Recommended attendance – 5 times or above a week to include more technique and repertoire class for performance and assessment.
  • Academy annual production
  • To participate in the annual showcase, students are required to attend Repertoire class and weekly group rehearsals on top of usual classes. Group rehearsals take place two months before the performance, usually on Sundays 5pm onwards.

Level 6

  • Pre-professional/ Teacher’s training
  • Senior Contemporary Dance (Level 4 and above)
  • Contemporary dance adopt movements from many dance styles. It is also a raw form of dance that does not follow any rules, encouraging creativity which is beneficial to the student.
  • Supplementary training and may be arranged for higher level students
  • Preparation and production of Audition DVD for tertiary education and competitions
  • RAD Major Examination

Private classes may be arranged for KLDW students who have specific needs or purposes.
