The Forest Research Strategic Plan 2014-2018 was formulated to address issues on sustainable forest management (SFM). It aims to contribute to the achievement of National Forest Programme (NFP) objectives by addressing key SFM issues. To address these issues, the strategic plan identifies seven major priority forest and wildlife research areas:
1. growth and yield of study;
2. forest restoration and rehabilitation;
3. forest plantation;
4. biodiversity conservation;
5. community forest;
6. climate change; and
7. Forest product research.
