Young Choral Academy (YCA) is Malaysia’s first academy for choral music, and a leading hub for choral education and choral singing activities. Founded in 2007 by Susanna Saw and Chow Wei Heng, it is a welcoming and beautiful space for people from all walks of life and ages, to discover the joy of singing in a choir, to explore and develop this into a passion in a positive and nurturing environment.

Working with the Ministry of Education of Malaysia, Young Choral Academy is the proud organizer of the Malaysian Choral Eisteddfod (MCE), one of Malaysia’s leading independent festivals for choral music and the umbrella platform for the annual National Choir Competition and the biennial International Choral Festival. This platform also integrates series of workshops, masterclasses, open rehearsals, outreach programmes and competition which is open to choirs and conductors from Malaysia and abroad.

The Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir

The primary philosophy of the Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir course is to introduce choral singing as a healthy activity for children, taught in a fun, relaxed and inspiring environment, based on the principles of the Kodaly Method. Young singers are nurtured and encouraged to explore singing to their fullest potential, given the freedom to express themselves, built upon a solid vocal and musical foundation, towards becoming confident performers.

Gaudeamus Youth Choir

Gaudeamus Youth Choir (GYC) is Young Choral Academy’s resident choral training programme for teenagers. Comprising singers between the ages of 14 to 19, they are mostly comprised of graduates of the Kuala Lumpur Children’s Choir and from different vocal and choral backgrounds.

Individual Classes:

  • Vocal (POP / Comtemporary)
  • Vocal (Classical)

We currently offer two options of vocal studies in the Academy – Classical or Pop/Contemporary. We are proud of all our students’ achievements. Our singing students continue to score the highest marks in music exams from Grade to Diploma levels, win top prizes at many national and international competitions, accepted into leading conservatories and music colleges around the world, singing in top international choirs, and performing on stages in concert halls around the world, including in London’s West End and New York’s Carnegie Hall.
